FIVE SPARROWS FOR TWO PENNIES

Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God.   Luke 12:6 (NIV)

I like sparrows.  I have also wondered why Jesus made special mention of sparrows in the scriptures.  Compared to other colourful birds, they are small, rather plain and insignificant. Where we live, we often see sparrows mingling unafraid with the bigger mynahs and the much larger crows on the ground, looking for food.  Unlike the other birds who sometimes fight fiercely and noisily over food or territory, the sparrows always seem so carefree, happy and contented, hopping and flitting anywhere and everywhere.  No fear. No worries. Unlike me. Every time I see a sparrow I feel Jesus reminding me to be like them, “Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.”
